This Wednesday, the European Parliament approved, by a large majority, the sanctions package to be imposed on Hungary, which includes, among others, the loss of the right to vote. Portuguese Communists voted against.
The report by Dutch MEP Judith Sargentini, who invokes several violations of Article 7 to justify the punishment of the Hungarian State, was approved by 448 of the 693 MEPs present in Strasbourg, France. There were 197 votes against - including those of the three CDU parliamentarians, one of which is João Ferreira.
The approval now calls on the European Council to decide on and approve or reject such sanctions. A quarter of the countries will be required to vote in favor of the sanctions.
