The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, was named "Apôh," which means love, received the robes and the crown of traditional head of the Ivory Coast, which he considered an honor.
In this ceremony at the headquarters of the Autonomous District of Abidjan, without the crown, cloth, sandals, collar and traditional chief's staff, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa nevertheless insisted on declaring himself "very happy to be President of the Republic and not King."
"It would be too heavy for a Republican to be king. Very, very heavy," he added.
