The Chief Executive, Chui Sai On, said today that the Government of the Special Administrative Region of Macau (SAR) will participate, "fully in the implementation of the country's strategy for the deepening of the reform and opening processes, with an innovative and entrepreneurial spirit."
Chui Sai On, who spoke at the ceremony to mark the 19th anniversary of the establishment of the Macau Special Administrative Region, said that the Executive " will seek to identify and accurately understand the position" of the territory on the "reform and opening processes" under way in China.
He recalled that these guidelines derive from President Xi Jinping's "four wishes" for Macau: "to contribute more actively to the full opening of the country, to become more actively involved in the overall development of the country, to participate, more actively, in the country's governing practice and to boost, in a more active way, the international humanistic exchange."
These four wishes fully reflect the importance and trust put by the Central Government in the Macau Special Administrative Region, and constitute the new guidelines for the future development of Macau, he said.
"This year marks a crucial phase for the implementation of the first Five-Year Development Plan of Macau," ensuring that the Government will continue to "proactively support and participate" in the construction of the "One Belt, One Road" initiative as well as in the integration "in the development of the Greater Bay Area, taking advantage of the 'one country, two systems' principle and the advantages of Macau as a world center for tourism and leisure and a plataform of cooperative trade services between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries."
Chui Sai On also pointed out that the Executive "acting with pragmatism" will "intensify exchanges with the departments of the Central Government and with the governments of Guangdong and Hong Kong so that the residents of Macau feel more and more accomplished through their participation in the construction of the Greater Bay Area"
.The minister also recalled initiatives by the Government to "diversify the economy" of the territory and to "improve the quality of life of the population", highlighting the commitment to "building a State of Law" as well as promoting the "elaboration of diplomas complementary to the defense of national security. "
Chui Sai On did not forget that in 2019 "there will be a change of Government", ensuring that the Executive will develop, "in accordance with the law and in an orderly manner, the preparatory work for the elections of the members of the Electoral Commission of the Chief Executive and for the election of Chief Executive, creating a good social atmosphere. "
"The experience of these last nineteen years, since the return of Macau to the fatherland, clearly tells us that the deep articulation of Macau's development with the national development is fundamental to the prosperity and long-term stability of Macau," he concluded.
