Iran detained 17 Iranian citizens allegedly recruited by the US intelligence services. According to the country's authorities, some of the detainees have already been sentenced to death.
An Iranian intelligence official said at a press conference in Tehran that the 17 detainees were tasked with obtaining information on Iran's nuclear program and military bases. He added that, following the accusations, 'many' have already been sentenced to capital punishment.
The 17 Iranians allegedly recruited by the CIA were arrested as part of an operation intended to dismantle a 'network of spies'. According to the same official, some arrests took place at military bases and nuclear power stations, but the suspects 'failed to carry out the planned sabotage operations'.
