Former President of the European Commission confident in the development of the continent
Durão Barroso, speaking on the margin of the 1st EurAfrican Forum, an event that aims to foster rapprochement and create relations of trust between the two continents, said that Europe must "avoid a paternalistic attitude towards Africa", betting on the potential of this continent. The former Portuguese prime minister stressed that partnerships with African countries are also fundamental for Europe.
Durão Barroso pointed to several advantages of the African continent, such as natural resources, a "dynamic and creative" population and the "resilience" of people, but also some problems such as "lack of organization and management capacity", which can improve with the European contribution.
