Guards were detained for not arresting Guaidó, accuses opposition

The Venezuelan opposition denounced on Tuesday that several officials of the Bolivarian National Guard, serving at Maiquetía Airport, were detained for failing to execute the arrest warrant for Venezuela's self-proclaimed interim president, Juan Guaidó.

"GNB (military police) officials posted at the airport yesterday refused to arrest Juan Guaidó and are now in jail," wrote opposition deputy José Luís Pirela on Twitter, adding that the officers, in an undisclosed number, were taken to the Fort of Tiúna, the main military base of Caracas.

Venezuela's self-proclaimed interim president, Juan Guaidó, arrived Monday afternoon at Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía (northern Caracas), where he was welcomed by a crowd of supporters and ambassadors from several European and Latin American countries, according to the images broadcasted live on TV.
