Court of Sweden decides not to apply for the arrest of Julian Assange

A Swedish court has decided not to apply for the detention, for alleged rape of a woman in that country in 2010, of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, who is already detained in the United Kingdom.

The decision does not mean abandoning the investigation in Sweden, but Assange - who is currently detained at the Belmarsh Prison - will not be extradited and can be interrogated in the UK.

The decision of the Uppsala court (eastern Sweden) is open to appeal but constitutes a setback for the prosecution requesting the issuance of an European arrest warrant for the transfer of Julian Assange from the United Kingdom to Sweden.
