Decree signed by President Jair Bolsonaro and published on Tuesday (1) in an extra edition of the "Diário Oficial da União" sets the minimum wage at R $ 998 this year, according to the G1. The present figure is R $ 954.
The figure was below the estimated budget of the Union of R $1,006. The budget was sent to Congress, in August last year by Michel Temer's government.
The minimum wage is used as a reference for welfare and social security benefits. By the current procedure, the minimum wage shall be corrected by the inflation of the previous year, as indicated by the National Consumer Price Index (INPC) plus the variation of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP, sum of goods and services produced in the country).
