Naruhito proclaimed his enthronement this Tuesday at a ceremony attended by 2,000 guests.
Emperor Naruhito of Japan has formally proclaimed his ascension to the throne in an elaborate ceremony held Tuesday at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. The ceremony was attended by 2,000 guests, including heads of state and dignitaries from some 180 countries.
"Before the country and the world, I proclaim my enthronement," Naruhito said alongside Empress Masako, both dressed in a traditional attire exclusively used in this ritual.
