Adolfo Mesquita Nunes has resigned from the vice-presidency of CDS-PP. The departure has been confirmed by Assunção Cristas, who regretted the loss of one of the party's most active leaders, but says she understands Mesquita Nunes' option. Mesquita Nunes sent Cristas a letter saying his resignation was due to the decision to take up a position as non-executive director of Galp.
In the letter, unveiled by Expresso, Adolfo Mesquita Nunes emphasizes that accepting Galp's invitation means to opt for a professional career to the detriment of his political career. Cristas told Expresso that the resignation was accepted and assumed as soon as Mesquita Nunes told her he would accept Galp's invitation. It is not a matter of incompatibility but of availability and personal choice, the CDS president argued.
