The Spring edition of the Guangdong Import and Export Fair of China, known as the Guangdong Fair has been postponed due to fears related to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Guangdong provincial authorities announced cited by the local press.
The 127th edition of the Guangdong fair, which has had two editions per year since 1957, in Spring and Autumn, was due to begin on 15 April, including three phases - the opening on 19 April, from 23 to 27 April and a third and final phase from 1 to 5 May.
The postponement announcement comes as foreign buyers are cancelling plans to visit the fair due to travel restrictions and fears of contracting Covid-19.
The decision was made after an assessment of the pandemic, particularly focusing on the high risk of importing infections, the director of the Trade Department of Guangdong province, Ma Hua, told the Nanfang Daily newspaper.
A new date for the Spring fair has yet to be announced but buyers who visit the fair regularly have mentioned the possibility of it being held in May.
