The National Bank of Angola (BNA) announced on Thursday (19th) that the sphinx of the new family of the national currency, the kwanza, now has only the face of the first President of Angola, Agostinho Neto.
The information was presented by BNA Governor José de Lima Massano at the National Assembly during the general discussion and approval of the bill authorizing the Central Bank to circulate a new kwanza banknote family.
The current banknotes have, besides the face of Agostinho Neto, the one of former president of the Republic, José Eduardo dos Santos.
José Massano explained that in the new kwanza family, called "2020 series," polymer (plastic) substrates have been incorporated that will make them more resistant than those made of paper in circulation.
He has ensured that they are safer because better security features have been included in them, thus making forgery difficult.
The new banknotes, with a face value of 200, 500, 1000, 2000, 5000 and 10000 kwanzas, called " 2020 Series," were also illustrated with the natural wonders of Angola.
