Lack of maritime connection prevents exportation of agricultural products to Boa Vista

Cheese and processed products ceased to be transported in 2017

Agricultural products, such as cheese and other processed products, from Santo Antão, are no longer being exported to Boa Vista in 2017. According to Inforpress, this is due to the lack of a maritime connection to that island.

Most of these products have been exported to the island of Sal, because there is still a connection with São Vicente, although this one also works irregularly.

The farmers' associations in different localities of Santo Antão, in particular Alto Mira, Ribeira da Cruz and Martiene, have already demanded, on several occasions, the regularization of maritime transport to the tourist markets so that the flow of products is facilitated.

During a trip to Santo Antão, at the end of May, the chief executive of Tourism, Francisco Martins, at the time on a meeting on ecotourism, stated that "secure steps" were being taken to resolve the issue of maritime transport in the archipelago.

"The Government is trying to solve the problem of the maritime connection between the islands. This is not going as fast as we would like, but the most important thing is to take secure steps to solve this great constraint," he stated.
