Portugal: Trade with China up 7.3%; cumulative investment €9bn - ambassador

Bilateral trade between China and Portugal increased by 7.3% last year, to €5.24 million, China's ambassador to Portugal said on Friday, adding that cumulative Chinese investment in Portugal is around €9 billion.

Speaking at the opening session of a conference on 40 years of diplomatic relations between Portugal and the Republic of China, Cai Run noted that economic ties had been increasing of late and expressed the hope that trade would increase still further in the coming years.

He added - in Chinese, with simultaneous translation into Portuguese - that total cumulative investment by China-based investors in Portugal now exceeds €9 billion.

Portuguese investment in China is also "very significant", he added.
