500 euro notes will start to disappear today but maintain their value

As of today, 17 out of 19 national central banks of the euro zone will no longer issue banknotes of 500 euros, which will be collected and destroyed.

The 500 euro note is no longer being issued in the countries that use this currency, with the exception of Austria and Germany for "logistical reasons", and "in order to ensure a smooth transition," according to the European Central Bank.
