Unitel failed to elect its chairman

The General Shareholders' Meeting of Unitel held in Luanda on Monday failed to elect a Chairman of the Board of Directors to replace Isabel dos Santos, who has been in the position since the start of the telecom company's operation in 2001.

Sources of Jornal de Angola said that at the end of the meeting, at around 9 pm, shareholders "did not reach consensus", delaying the substitution process which begun in December 2017, when the mandates of the company's governing bodies expired.

Unitel is owned by four shareholders with equal shares of the company: Geni (25 percent), represented by Leopoldino do Nascimento, Vidatel (25 percent) from Isabel dos Santos, PT Ventures (also with 25 percent, represented by the Brazilian company Oi) and Ms Telcom.
