Sector entity sent letter to the Ministry of Environment asking for attention to the issue.
More than 18 international brands, such as Timberland, Vans and Kipling, have suspended the purchase of Brazilian leather due to news relating the burning in the Amazon region with agribusiness in the country, according to information from CICB (Brazilian Tannery Center) sent to the minister of Environment, Ricardo Salles, on Tuesday (27).
"Recently, we received with much concern the announcement of suspension of purchases of leather from Brazil from some of the major importers in the world. This cancellation was justified by news relating the burning in the Amazon region to the country's agribusiness," said CICB President José Fernando Bello in the document.
