Brazil and the US are not allies in the Chinese market, but competitors, experts say

Experts show concern over rhetoric adopted by a government wing.

Foreign trade experts and agribusiness representatives are concerned about the rhetoric adopted by a wing of Jair Bolsonaro's government (PSL) that believes Brazil and the United States should unite to avoid "codependency" over China.

"In the Chinese market, Brazil and the United States are competitors, not allies. In the US market, it is Brazil and China's turn to compete. We need some distance in relation to these two powers, not alignment," says Sandra Rios, director of Cindes (Center for Integration and Development Studies).
