Whale tries to swallow diver in South Africa

The whale swallowed the diver by chance

The incident occurred while Rainer Schimpf was filming a shiver of sharks off the coast near Port Elizabeth Harbour, South Africa.

Rainer Schimpf, a 51-year-old experienced diver, was filming a shiver of sharks off the coast near Port Elizabeth Harbour, South Africa, when he felt a huge pressure around his wait and his vision suddenly darkened. In that split second, Schimpf realized he had been caught by a whale.

"Nothing can prepare you for being inside a whale. So it's pure instinct," the diver said.

While trying to engulf a school of fish, the mammal swallowed the diver by chance. "Whales don't eat men and it couldn't swallow me because I'm too big, so I assumed it would dive down again and spit me out somewhere," he told Fox News.

And indeed the whale dived down and opened its mouth slightly, making it easier for the diver to escape.
