Never had so many trees been planted in a single day. The goal is to fight climate change.
The challenge was launched on May 26 by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed: the Green Legacy project aims to plant 4 billion trees - 40 trees per person - and to combat the effects of deforestation and climate change in the drought-prone country.
Last Wednesday (July 24), Ethiopian Agriculture Minister Umar Hussen announced that the country had already planted 2.6 billion trees. And he added that 200 million trees would be planted on a single day - this Monday, July 29.
