South African restaurant creates 100% insect-based menu

Mopane caterpillars are a traditional delicacy in South Africa, but a Cape Town restaurant is about to become the first to serve a menu consisting exclusively of insects.

The Insect Experience, which opened its doors this month, combines an alternative food source with the city's traditional experience in cuisine. The restaurant was opened by Gourmet Grub, a company that has already introduced in Cape Town a lactose-free ice cream made with insect "milk".
