A major controversy broke out in China - because of some freckles. A campaign for a new line of cosmetics from Spanish fashion retailer Zara has sparked a massive debate in China because the model, Jing Wen, is famous for her freckles.
In China, as well as throughout East Asia, having fair, spotless skin has been a beauty standard for decades. Jing Wen's presence in the ad therefore triggered an enormous discussion on Sina Weibo, one of the country's most popular social media platforms.
