Paula Rego's painting goes to auction for 200 thousand euros, in Lisbon

A painting by Paula Rego entitled "A Ilha do Tesouro" and three oil paintings by Júlio Pomar (1926-2018) will be auctioned on July 18th and 19th in Lisbon, by the Palácio do Correio Velho.

According to the auction, 624 lots will be presented in this auction of Antiques and Modern and Contemporary Art, starting from 7:30 p.m. A Ilha do Tesouro, by Paula Rego, painted in 1972, using mixed technique with collages on canvas, with dimensions of approximately 120 by 120 centimeters, currently has a minimum estimated value of 200 thousand euros.

From Júlio Pomar, artist who passed away in May of this year, will be auctioned three oils on canvas: Casamento (1961), with a base value for bidding of 100 thousand euros, Entrada de Touros (1963), 80 thousand euros, and Un Taureau dans une Coquille (1984), 40 thousand euros.

In addition to these two national painters, the Palácio do Correio Velho auction presents a set of very heterogeneous pieces and several works by other national artists, such as Vespeira or Angelo de Sousa. The paintings can be seen in the free exhibition and open to the public on the 14th, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on the 16th and 17th, from 3pm to 9pm.
