JN had already reported it, but the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art only officially confirmed it this Thursday. Yoko Ono will have an exhibition in Porto, scheduled for April.
It is also planned that the artist will come to the city and participate in performances. Yoko Ono, know in popular history as the wife of John Lennon, nevertheless has a long history in contemporary art, with art work all over the world. Serralves will bring "The Garden School of Liberty," a "vast exhibition dedicated to the artist's work," explains the Foundation's program. It is "a vast exhibition dedicated to the work of iconic artist Yoko Ono, where objects, paper works, installations, performances, audio recordings and films, as well as rarely seen archival material, are brought together."
"The show," explains Serralves, "presents a comprehensive view of this pioneering artist's multiple production of concept art and performance. During the early years of her long career, Yoko Ono lived between New York, Tokyo and London." The exhibition is organized in collaboration with "Studio One, New York" and is the first major presentation by Yoko Ono in Portugal.
