The first edition of the Portuguese Language Festival kicks off on Thursday and runs until Saturday.
Authors such as Gregório de Matos, Rui Barbosa, Luís Gama and Gilberto Gil were born in Salvador. Castro Alves, Jorge Amado and João Ubaldo Ribeiro came from other cities in Bahia but spent much of their career in Salvador.
So it makes perfect sense that Salvador should celebrate the language these poets, novelists and journalists took such great care of. The first edition of the Portuguese Language Festival (FELPO) kicks off this Thursday (March 28).
FELPO will run until Saturday (March 30) as part of the celebrations of the 470th anniversary since the founding of the Bahia capital.
