The French museum will curate and provide works from its collection, but local officials will approve the exhibited works.

When the Pompidou Center first proposed opening an outpost in China over a decade ago, French skeptics were still fiercely debating whether or not to use respected national museums to promote the foreign political and commercial interests.

But with the inauguration of the Louvre Abu Dhabi and Pompidou Malaga in recent years, the French strategy of using museum diplomacy to gain prominence abroad is clearly established.
