Voices of the world sing the diversity of peoples in Lisbon

More than 30 choir groups from 50 countries came to Portugal for the first international festival of its kind, an initiative of the International Choral Music Foundation (IFCM), chaired by Chinese businesswoman Emily Vong.

The opening ceremony took place on July 28 at Coliseu dos Recreios, in Lisbon, and was attended by over a thousand people. These included Ambassador Wang Kaiwen, Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (OCX); Catarina Vaz Pinto, Culture Counselor of the City of Lisbon; Filipa Roseta, councilor of Cascais City Council, other representatives of various sectors of China and Portugal.

The opening speeches were given by the president of the Maotelei International Culture Center and the Cai Wenxian Luso-Chinese Traders and Industrialists Association, and the president of the International Choral Music Foundation, Guo Liming. The highlight was the presence of choirs from around the world in Lisbon, and the special collaboration of the Lisbon City Council and the Cascais City Council.

It should be noted that IFCM is an official representative of UNESCO's International Music Council (IMC), and its purpose is to promote international exchange and cooperation among choirs from around the world. Since IFCM hosted the World Choral Expo on December 3, 1990, choirs from around the world have celebrated unity, peace and understanding with songs every year.

At the closing ceremony of the World Choral Expo 2019, on the night of July 31st, the World Youth Choir, composed by young people from around the world, sang songs from various nations of the world. Members of the World Youth Choir wore colorful and characteristic clothing from their own cultures, reflecting the richness and cultural diversity. Inside the National Theater of São Carlos was then sung the same song, praising the richness of cultural diversity, in each song is contained the great cultural harmony of the world.
