Brazilian national appointed Sistine Chapel choir director

Monsignor Massimo Palombella has left the position of Pontifical Musical Chapel conductor/director. Brazilian director Marcos Pavan has been appointed to replace him.

According to a press release issued by the Holy See, Pope Francis accepted the "the maestro's request to be released from his position." Last September, the leader of the Catholic Church had authorized an investigation into possible financial fraud activities in the choir.

Back then, Vatican officials said there was a suspicion that money from concerts was being embezzled. In January 2019, the Pope issued a 'motu proprio' to reshape the structure of the Pontifical Music Chapel.
