A native indian will descend from a bright and colorful star, sings Caetano Veloso in one of his most famous songs. What will reveal itself to the people, he concludes, will surprise everyone not because it is exotic, but because it may have always been hidden, when it will have been the obvious.
The song, chanted with the grandiloquent rhetoric of a prophecy, could well be the hymn of a new moment in the Brazilian arts - which will now seek visual or conceptual inspiration in indigenous imaginary.
