“It is not ruled out that the vaccine is a Christmas gift,” said Spanish health minister Salvador Illa.
The Spanish Health Administration, Salvador Illa, this Friday gave some very encouraging news: the possibility of having a vaccine against Covid-19 perhaps at Christmas or more likely in January or February.
During that period, he assured, Spain will have 30 million vaccines and then it should proceed to distribute them according to population criteria and in an “equitable” manner among the various autonomous regions.
Speaking to RAC1, Salvador Illa said that if the vaccine follows the expected rhythms, a significant percentage of the population may already be vaccinated in the summer. The Spanish minister says that “there is a very big effort” to have the vaccine ready as soon as possible and that at the beginning of the year there will be “different types of vaccine” that “over time will be more effective”.
Although she predicts that the next 15 days will be “very dark” in the fight against the pandemic, Illa emphasizes that there is a “horizon of hope” ahead of five or six months from now. Until then, Spain and the world will have to live with a virus that can still generate “many complications”.
