European cooperation against terrorism in Africa

António Maló de Abreu*

The fight against terrorism and the prevention of violent extremism have been priorities for the European Union over the past year, in line with the United Nations Global Strategy against Terrorism and the Action Plan to Prevent Violent Extremism.

The European Union has strengthened its specific counter-terrorism dialogues with the Western Balkans, Turkey, the countries of the Middle East and North Africa. As well as with the main international organizations.

The European Union has been the largest investor in peace and security in Africa with a contribution of more than three billion euros, over the past 15 years.
